On what is called Florida’s “Treasure Coast”, on the Intercoastal Waterway and the Indian River Lagoon, Sebastian is a popular fishing area. It is also the location of Mel Fisher’s Treasure Museum. Mel Fisher was a pioneer in shipwreck salvage and was made famous with the discoveries off the coast of nearby Melbourne Beach and in Key West.
The city of Sebastian is on the mainland side of the Intercoastal Waterway and the Indian River. The closest bridge to the beach side is to the south in Vero Beach. Wabasso Beach Park and the beaches of the Sebastian Inlet State Park are your best and closest choices for sandy beach activity.
