Steinbrenner Field is centrally located and is convenient to Tampa International Airport and is not that far from Downtown Tampa or the picture perfect views of Tampa Bay. Located on the corner of Dale Mabry Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., directly across from Raymond James Stadium, Steinbrenner Field is easy to find. The ball park being on a busy thoroughfare has numerous hotel and restaurant choices nearby.
Spring Training in Florida starts right in the beginning of the busy tourist season so it is best to make your plans for accommodations way in advance or you will be taking a chance of having less than ideal selections left available.
The most convenient locations within Tampa to both the Airport and Steinbrenner Field are the Westshore area, Carrollwood and surrounding area or if you want views of the bay, the Rocky Point area. Downtown Tampa is also not that far away and would make a good choice for hotel location because of all the things to do within walking distance. See my posts on Downtown Tampa.
If a long term stay throughout spring training is what you are seeking than a condo or house rental is probably the most cost effective. As with any major city there are some areas that are better than others. My suggestion is to look for a vacation rental within the Carrollwood area as it is a nice but still affordable suburb of Tampa. Restaurants and department stores are also plentiful in the Carrollwood community and it is only about a 10 minute drive to the ball park.
The Westshore district is also a good choice but rentals there may be a tad bit more of an expense. In the Westshore district there are 2 shopping malls, Westshore Plaza and the upscale International Mall and both have great dinning choices. The Westshore community is also very convenient to the airport, downtown Tampa and Steinbrenner Field. Interstate 275 south and Highway 60 which are the highways to the Gulf Coast Pinellas County Beaches are easily accessed from the Westshore area of Tampa.
If you are looking for a stay with a view that is still close to Steinbrenner Field then may I suggest Rocky Point on the Courtney Campbell Causeway (highway 60). This Causeway over the bay connects Tampa To Clearwater and Clearwater Beach and the view of Tampa Bay is gorgeous. There are both long term condo rentals and hotels on the causeway and a few pretty darn good restaurants as well. Rocky Point is also just a hop, skip and a jump from Tampa International Airport and just minutes away from Steinbrenner Field. On the causeway you will also find Ben T. Davis Beach on Tampa Bay where you can rent jet skis, swim or enjoy a walk on the paved trail over the water.
When you are not at the ball park enjoying a game there are certainly many other attractions in Tampa to keep you busy. If you enjoy theme parks, animals and thrilling rides than check out Busch Gardens or if you are not into being thrilled on a roller coaster but like the animals than perhaps a day at Zoo Tampa would be more up your alley. Speaking of thrilling how about trying your luck at Tampa’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
The Downtown Tampa and Ybor City historic district are both entertainment districts that are sure to fill your day and nights with activity. The free Streetcar will take you from Downtown to Ybor and back again so be sure to check out both districts as they are filled with museums, restaurants, clubs, and more. The Florida Aquarium is also a popular attraction and it too is located in Downtown Tampa.
