Beautiful boardwalk trail over and through tunnels of mangroves. Shaded by the mangroves, this trail is easy walking even through the summertime months.
Possible wildlife sightings include eagles, ibis, herons, other wading & migratory birds, raccoons, snakes, etc. Be sure to stop at the visitor’s center for information on programs, local wildlife, trail guides. Restrooms are also provided at the visitor center only. Bikes and dogs are not permitted.
Hours of operation: 8 am to dusk all year long.
This is a swampy area and bugs are common, one should apply bug repellent to insure maximum enjoyment of the preserve.
There is a kayak trail that runs through the preserve, however, there is about 800 feet where the kayak must be carried through. This trail is not recommended for beginners and children 6 years and younger are not allowed in Kayaks. Kayak rentals are seasonal. An impressive memorial to all branches of the United States Armed Forces runs along the south side of the parking area.
