Located in Fort White, Florida, Ichetucknee Springs State Park is the perfect outing for anyone looking for a day of outdoor adventure.
Whether you are looking for a day of leisurely hiking, wildlife viewing, swimming in a cool spring, a family picnic, a vigorous paddle on the river, or a relaxing float down the river on a tube, Ichetucknee Springs State Park has all of that and much more.
The park’s most popular feature is its 8 clear crystal springs that join to create the six-mile Ichetucknee River.
3 nature trails wind through the park giving hikers breathtaking views of pristine springs, lush forests, and sandhill landscapes.
Otters, beaver, wild turkey, gar, wood duck, and softshell turtle sightings are common within the park. It is also a great place for birding enthusiasts.
There are two entrances to the park, the north entrance off Highway 238 is the entrance one would enter to enjoy swimming at the Ichetucknee Spring Head and snorkeling and diving in Blue Hole Spring vent. (Divers must be certified) The north entrance also has a canoe/kayak launch ramp. The south entrance off Highway 27 is the entrance one would enter for tubing on the river. Hiking trails and picnic tables can be found at both entrances.
Canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddleboards can be rented at the General Store at the south entrance
There are no camping facilities at Ichetucknee Springs State Park; however, there are two state parks nearby with facilities. John and I stayed in a cabin at Lafayette Blue Springs State Park, about 35 miles away. O’leno State Park is about 12 miles away and has RV and primitive camping.
