Covid19 has taken a real bite out of the average American’s income and summer travel budgets are going to be a fraction of what they normally would be. However, this does not mean that a Florida vacation has to be totally out of the picture. Hotels in Florida will be in a fierce battle, lowering rates to try to win over any tourist that are keeping an open mind about traveling after the Covid19 restrictions are lifted and some of the most affordable rates may be for the traveler who does not need to necessarily stay right on the beach or in the closest hotel to a theme park.
If a beach vacation is what you want but the cost of staying right on the sand is out of your price range, then how about a stay that is within walking distance or a short drive, at a fraction of the cost?
If your funds are tight but a beach vacation is just not a beach vacation unless your hotel is right on the sand, then perhaps skip the fancy smancy resort and book a stay at one of Florida’s many nostalgic beach hotels.
If you were thinking more of a theme park style vacation but those theme park resort rates are too high for the family budget, no problem as there are literally hundreds of other choices within close proximity to the parks at a much lower cost.
Here is a short list of just some of the great values I have found.
St. Pete Beach
Scattered along the coast line throughout the central west coast beaches of St. Pete are hundreds of nostalgic hotels, upgraded, renovated and perfect for the family looking for a simple, no frills and affordable beach vacation. The average rates being advertised for summer of 2020 start around $120 per night on up and these rates are some of the best I have seen so far for an on the beach or near the beach, summer vacation.

Seaworld Area – Orlando
An aquarium that educates + an amusement park with thrilling rides = a great day of family fun an adventure at Seaworld, Orlando. How about a day splashing, sliding and conquering the waves? Aquatica at Seaworld has all that and more.
Of course both Seaworld and Aquatica are both currently closed due to Covid19 however, if they do indeed open up this summer as some are predicting, a great value family vacation could be in your future.

Near Legoland Park – Winter Haven
Once the parks are opened back up after COVID19, the Legoland Theme Park and Legoland Waterpark would make a perfect value vacation duo for families with younger children. Located in the central Florida city of Winter Haven, convenient to other great central Florida attractions and about an hour drive to the beaches of West Central Florida.
Closest Airport: Orlando International (MCO) about 60 miles
Fort Myers Beach
On Florida’s South West Coast, Fort Myers Beach is another beach community with a multitude of nostalgic small hotels built in the 1950’s and 60’s. Where these hotels may lack in some of the luxurious amenities of the expensive 4 and 5 star resorts, they make up for in charm and affordable rates.
Near by Airport: Southwest Florida International (RSW)
On Florida’s Atlantic coast, on a stretch of shoreline nick named the treasure coast, lies the peaceful beaches of Vero Beach. Nature walks, golfing and shopping are favorite past times in Vero Beach, that is, when your not playing in the surf or soaking up the sun’s rays on this beautiful stretch of beach.
closest airport: Orlando-Melbourne International (MLB) approx. 42 miles
Kissimmee could be called the gateway to the theme parks as it is situated only 20 minutes from the Walt Disney World Resort Complex, 26 minutes from the theme parks at Universal Studios, 23 minutes from Seaworld and Seaworld Aquatica, and 45 minutes from Legoland. But the convenience to the theme parks is not the only reason that makes Kissimmee a good choice for a family vacation, the hotel rates in the Kissimmee area are on average a lot less than a stay at a theme park resort, making it a value vacation destination choice as well.
Closest Airport: Orlando International Airport (MCO) 25 minutes
Everglades National Park
A Florida natural wonder, Everglades National Park offers a journey through an unparalleled subtropical wilderness. There are many ways to explore this vast ecosystem, boat tours, hiking trails, bike trails and kayak trails are all fun and exciting ways for visitors to have wildlife sightings, and to discover the mosaic of habitats contained within the park.

Just a short drive from some of south Florida’s most exquisite beaches, Downtown West Palm Beach is a fabulous arts, entertainment and shopping district with an elegant tropical vibe. Delicious dining, fabulous shopping, museums and preforming arts are the key ingredients to this South East Florida Community. Take a drive over the intercoastal waterway and do some gawking at the lavish lifestyle of the rich and famous in Palm Beach.

Known as Florida’s #1 surfing beach, Cocoa beach is a classic example of a laid back, surfs up, Florida beach lifestyle community. On Florida’s space coast, this stretch of beach on the central Atlantic coast has much to offer to the vacationing family. After Riding the waves and hanging out at the historic Cocoa Beach Pier take a 45 minute or so drive to the west to the house of mouse, better known as the Walt Disney World Resort or perhaps take the 35 minute drive to the northwest where you and your family can discover about all things space at the Kennedy Space Center Complex.
