St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park
Are you feeling adventurous? Do you like exhilarating thrills? How about a zip line and obstacle course over 7 acres of live alligators?
Well if hovering over live gators is not quite your style then perhaps a safe walk through the zoo would be your preferred choice of wildlife viewing. St. Augustine’s Alligator Farm Zoological Park was founded in 1893 and is one of the oldest zoos in the United States and is home to many rare and exotic birds, mammals and reptiles as well as wildlife native to Florida.
With a commitment to conservation the park presents several shows teaching about misunderstood reptiles, the preservation of natural ecosystems and other interactive programs targeted to children of all ages.
The zoo holds exhibits of birds, mammals and reptiles from all over the world and includes a boardwalk over a native swamp and rookery which exhibits the birds, mammals and reptiles native to the zoo’s own backyard.
Perhaps the most popular exhibit of the park is the alligator lagoon and the alligator feeding shows where one will watch in amazement as the zoo handlers get awfully close to these dangerous reptiles.
St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is accredited with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and is located at 999 Anastasia Blvd, on beach side in Saint Augustine. Ripley’s Red Train Tours includes a stop at the zoo and Old Town Trolley Tours provides a beach side bus shuttle as part of their trolley service.
The park is pretty big and has several shows and many exhibits, so allow yourself several hours to fully enjoy this experience.
