Safety Harbor Resort and Spa

Escape to Healing Waters

In 1539 while looking for the mythical Fountain of Youth, Spanish Explorer Hernando Desoto rediscovered what the Indians had known about for years, the natural mineral springs on the west shore of Tamp Bay. He named these springs “Espiritu Santo Springs” meaning ” The Springs of the Holy Spirit”. The legend has it that the 4 springs could cure skin, stomach, kidney and liver problems and the legend so believed that in the early 1900’s the waters of the springs were bottled and sold around the world.

The 22 acre Safety Harbor Resort and Spa built on the location of these healing springs, is one of America’s oldest spa resorts and is on the registry of Historic Hotels of America. It has a history going back to the 1920’s but it was in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s that 2 doctors had the vision to create a true health resort that would house overnight guests. The renovations to the hotel and the legend of the springs healing powers started a health trend and the resort became a world renowned wellness retreat for the elite.

Today this elegant resort has a slogan “where healing waters flow” which is very fitting due to the fact that one of it’s amenities is a 45 x 95 foot swimming pool fed by the natural springs. This resort is truly heaven for the health conscious, a couples get away or a girls retreat. Some of the many fitness amenities include a fitness center, steam sauna, whirlpool, weight room, pools and tennis courts. They also offer classes in Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates or you can book a wellness retreat focusing on nutrition, anti aging or weight loss.

They have a menu of other services in the spa perfect for a girls retreat such as message therapies, exotic facial treatments, nail care, hair care, waxing and make up. And if you are a guy, they don’t leave you out either as there is a menu of treatments for you too. There are also couples packages, group packages and the teen spa which I think would be a perfect gift for a girls sweet 16 birthday.

This 172 room resort also has 30,00 square feet of meeting space which would provide a very unique business conference location for innovative companies looking to improve employee performance through wellness initiatives.

The elegance and beauty of this resort gives one the feeling of celebrity but yet a stay here is affordable. A small resort fee per day gives you the use of all the amenities and you can book spa services at the per service price if so desired.

With its beautiful view of the bay, Safety Harbor Resort is also known for its destination wedding location and that is where my family has had a wonderful first hand experience. My son and daughter in law did not get married here, however it is where we stayed and had the rehearsal dinner. The dinner was in a beautifully decorated conference room, with a wonderful catered meal prepared by the hotel restaurant staff. The bridesmaids and bride had a complete spa treatment the day before the wedding and the groomsman enjoyed the day at the pool, fitness center and tiki bar. The wedding was on a Sunday which gave the family, the groomsmen and groom the opportunity to enjoy the resorts to die for wonderful Sunday morning brunch. After the wedding we all came back to the hotel for a night cap in the lounge and the Bride and Groom had a beautiful bay view suite for a romantic first night as a married couple. The hotel stay, spa services, dinner the night before and the wonderful brunch, truly made the wedding an entire weekend event we will forever remember.

Safety Harbor Resort and Spa is located in the quaint small town of Safety Harbor, Florida and is within walking distance to it’s unique shops and restaurants.

One of the restaurants we thoroughly enjoyed for lunch in Safety Harbor was The Sandwich on Main.

Safety Harbor Resort and Spa and the Town of Safety Harbor are convenient to both Tampa International Airport and Saint Petersburg Clearwater Airport as both are just about 20 minutes away.
