Ok, I will be honest with you, John and I thought this was going to be a cheesy roadside attraction but it was a rainy day and we needed to get off the road so we decided to stop and give it a try. As it turned out the place is actually pretty cool and it would be a great place to take the kids.
The Shell Factory has actually been around for 78 years and I think they have been adding on to it since the beginning. The brochure says there is over 18 acres of shopping and I believe it. John and I were there for about 3 hours and they have way more than just shells there. They have all sorts of unique gifts, jewelry, toys, books and more.
Inside there is an arcade for the kids, a natural history exhibit, a fudge and ice cream shop, a snack bar, and in the back there is a tribute to military veterans. They have a pirate room, a dinosaur area and a Christmas gift shop. There is also an area with unique greeting cards, Florida souvenirs and clothing.
Outside you can visit the nature park, petting area, aviaries and the dinosaur park with Jurassic replicas. John and I didn’t get to explore much outside because of the rain but when it’s not raining they also have miniature golf, bumper boats, a zip line, and playground.
If you are in the Fort Myers area and are looking for some unique gifts to take back home or if you just need to entertain the children for a few hours than you should check this place out. Admission is free but you won’t get out of there without spending money, I can guarantee that. I was skeptical before going in but ended buying several gifts for upcoming family birthdays and John and I had a few laughs in the process.
The Shell Factory is located at 2787 north Tamiami Trail in North Fort Myers
